"The day had finally arrived, when Eagles fans made their annual trek up to the Lehigh Valley for the first day of live scrimmages with the entire team assembled.
The 5,608 fans on hand for the morning practice cheered every good catch and run on offense, oohed and ahhed after a hard tackle, and pretty much yelled out to any player who would acknowledge them. The afternoon practice was held indoors because of the weather. It wasn't open to the public.
The fans saved perhaps their loudest cheers for Brian Westbrook when he slowly ambled down the sideline during the live hitting toward the final part of the morning practice.
Westbrook is still recovering from offseason surgeries on his knee and ankle, and won't practice for a few more weeks.
That seems like a microcosm of the Eagles during this training camp.
The potential for a Super Bowl run is there after a season that ended in the NFC Championship Game, with Westbrook counted on to lead a powerful offense.
But Westbrook might not play in a preseason game while he recovers; the receiving corps is either banged up (Kevin Curtis) or missing (Jeremy Maclin); and the revamped offensive line is missing two key components in Jason Peters and Shawn Andrews, who are both out with injuries."
