"NFL players often go elsewhere through free agency to "get paid." Some just need a new home after a team decides to move on, or they return to an old one in hopes of recapturing past glory.
But changes of scenery don't always work out for the best. Here are a few players who fall into that category this season:
Where next, T.O.?When Dallas released controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens in the offseason, Buffalo jumped at the chance to add a player who could help a sputtering offense.
What have the Bills received for a one-year, $6.5 million investment? Owens has 23 catches for 281 yards and one touchdown. He also has run for a score. Not exactly numbers befitting a six-time Pro Bowl selection.
His streak of 185 consecutive games with a catch, second-longest among active players, ended in a home loss to New Orleans on Sept. 27. He bobbled a catch going out of bounds and was open deep twice, but the passes were overthrown.
The Bills (3-5) are 28th in scoring at just 15.4 points a game. While tied with Lee Evans for most receptions on the team, Owens is on pace for his least productive season since his rookie year in San Francisco in 1996.
Yet to fly in PhillyOut of football for two years due to his imprisonment for involvement in a dogfighting ring, Michael Vick's return to the NFL with Philadelphia was one of the most publicized stories entering this season. Anticipation heightened when his suspension was lifted by commissioner Roger Goodell after two games, but the former franchise quarterback in Atlanta has yet to shake off the rust and regain the form that earned three Pro Bowl selections.
Part of that is because the Eagles have one of the best quarterbacks in the game in Donovan McNabb. Vick has attempted just six passes with two completions for 6 yards. The Eagles also have tried him in the wildcat formation. He has run for 27 yards on 12 carries."
