McNabb's stats recall best years with Birds

"Despite missing two games with a broken rib and a constant shuffle among his stable of playmakers and linemen, Donovan McNabb has quietly assembled a personal season that closely mirrors 2004 -- which ended with the Eagles making their first Super Bowl appearance.

This season, McNabb's completion percentage (61.3), passer rating (95.9), passing yards per game (245.6) and yards per attempt (8.0) each exceeds his career averages.

Asked if he were more proud of this year's accomplishments than years past, McNabb said he wouldn't "go into the whole individual aspect."

"I think as a team we have really played well with all the adversities that we've had to overcome, with the shuffling of the offensive line, with losing Kevin Curtis and [Jeremy] Maclin stepping in ..."

For the first three months, McNabb's 2009 season had blended some of the highlights from past seasons with some of their disappointments.

In 2005 and 2006, the post-Super Bowl years, McNabb sustained major injuries that cut each season short.

In 2007, his first season back from reconstructive knee surgery, and 2008, infamous for his midseason slump and subsequent benching, McNabb's job security became a hot-button issue.

This year, McNabb bounced back from his season-opening rib injury to pass for 264 yards, three touchdowns and register a 157.2 passer rating in his return against Tampa Bay. But the following week in a loss to Oakland, he completed just 47.8 percent of his passes and didn't throw a touchdown."
