Hockey Grumblings -- Campbell Corner -- November 12, 2008

"Let's look at some players who should be available in most leagues and produce in specific fantasy categories

Andy McDonald, St. Louis Blues (Assists, Power play points)

McDonald has been a key contributor to the Blues second-ranked power play. Nine of his 12 assists have come on the man advantage. He had only 34 assists a year ago but had 51 in each of the two previous seasons.

R. J. Umberger, Columbus Blue Jackets (Goals)

The center may be available in many leagues and for good reason. It took eleven games for Umberger to score his first goal but he is having a hot November with five goals in six games. It took Umberger a while to find chemistry with his new teammates but he is now back on the team's top line.

Mason Raymond, Vancouver Canucks (Points, Plus-minus)

Raymond is playing alongside the Sedin twins on Vancouver's top line and had 10 points in 10 games before going pointless in his last two. As long as he stays on the top line, Raymond will have plenty of opportunities to contribute offensively and keep a strong plus-minus rating.

Joe Pavelski, San Jose Sharks (Shots on goal)

Pavelski is an offensive player who likes to shoot the puck. He currently is in the top ten in the conference in shots on goal with 52. Pavelski is a low-end fantasy option in terms of points scoring, with five goals and five assists in 16 games.

Chris Kunitz, Anaheim Ducks (Assists)

Kunitz is playing on the hottest line in hockey alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. He has nine assists playing for a Ducks team that is 7-2-1 in its last 10 games.

Steve Montador, Anaheim Ducks (Plus-minus, Penalty minutes)

Montador had a career high 23 points last season. But his fantasy value lies mostly in his aggressive style of play. Through 17 games, Montador has 34 penalty minutes. He also has a plus five rating in his first season in Anaheim."
