"Sheldon Brown reported as promised yesterday evening for the Eagles' mandatory minicamp, which starts today. The Birds' disaffected cornerback did not commit to showing for the voluntary camps later in the spring, though he pledged, "I'm going to be a pro, and play hard." He said he plans to be nothing but cordial to new corner Ellis Hobbs, who also spoke yesterday. Hobbs said he respects what Brown is going through, having left New England dissatisfied with his own contract.Brown reiterated what he told the Daily News on Sunday, after a draft-day trade brought Hobbs to the Eagles from New England - that he knew there would be consequences when he publicized his request to be traded because of dissatisfaction with his contract, and that the prospect of being shunted aside, as Lito Sheppard was in the same situation a year ago, did not scare him."I knew the repercussions of everything before I did it. I'm ready for whatever," Brown said. "It's not going to weigh on my mind; my job is to play football, and that's what I'm going to do . . . I just wanted the truth to be out there, and it's out there now."Brown has said he went public after hearing that team president Joe Banner said in a radio interview that he was not aware of Brown's unhappiness with his contract, when Brown knew Banner was aware of it; Banner has suggested he gave that answer because he thought Brown wanted to keep the matter private.Asked about participation in future organized team activities, Brown said: "I'm thinking about right now, what's going on right now. The past or the future, none of that really matters.""
