"Donovan McNabb's 33rd birthday on Wednesday drew more attention than usual.
If he were an accountant or doctor, he might be considered a man on the rise, yet to reach his prime.
But for quarterbacks, 33 is considered the twilight of an NFL career. McNabb is often asked about his remaining NFL lifespan as if the sand has almost completely filtered through his career hourglass.
"I feel great," McNabb said in his weekly press conference. "One thing about being here, you can kind of be at ease.
"When you look at our locker room, you'll see guys who were in high school when you've been playing in the league and guys who played with you on PlayStation or Xbox or whatever it may be. It kinds of keeps you young. Thirty-three years old, I still feel great and [have] a lot more years to go."
Only five NFL starting quarterbacks -- Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning, Matt Hasselbeck, Jake Delhomme -- are older than McNabb, who is signed through 2010 thanks to the two-year extension he inked in the offseason.
McNabb hasn't shown signs of slowing down, despite his age, much like it hasn't for the 40-year-old Favre and 38-year-old Warner. In his 11th season, McNabb is averaging 241 yards per game and 7.7 yards per completion. He has a 61.6 completion percentage and 95.9 passer rating -- all higher than his career averages."
