"Coach Mike Singletary said the 49ers had a "miscommunication" in trying to cover DeSean Jackson on a crucial play Sunday.
Cornerback Dre' Bly was more specific.
"It was on me,'' he said.
Bly said he and strong safety Michael Lewis were supposed to shadow the former Cal star on a third-and-2 play early in the fourth quarter. Instead, the Eagles dynamo got by both of them, hauling in a 59-yard pass that set up Philadelphia's final touchdown in a 27-13 victory at Lincoln Financial Field.
Bly said that when Jackson released inside, it was up to him to keep pace. "I needed to do a better job of hauling tail,'' he said.
Instead, Jackson caught the ball in stride and took it all the way to the 49ers' 22-yard line. It was the final momentum swing of the game.
"It goes back to the ability that he has to create separation and make that play,'' Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said. "But that's just the way it's been all year."
Jackson has five 100-yard games this season, the most by an Eagle since Terrell Owens had seven in 2004.
On Sunday, Jackson became just the fourth Eagle in franchise history to have back-to-back games with at least 140 receiving yards. The others were Mike Quick (1985), Ben Hawkins (1967), Pete Retzlaff (1965) and Bud Grant (1952).
This time, Jackson's big game helped the Eagles clinch a playoff spot."
