Eighth-seeded Gonzaga took advantage of closely officiated game, OSU’s 15 missed free throws and 26 points from Kevin Pangos to dispatch the ninth-seeded Cowboys Thursday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

In a battle of free throws — the two teams combined to shoot 78 total — the Zags missed 15 as well, finishing at 26-41. The Cowboys made 22 of 37.

GU had four players in double figures in scoring, shooting 50 percent from the field and hitting nine 3-pointers.

OSU’s leading scorers during the regular season, Marcus Smart and Markel Brown, combined for 43 points. The Cowboys hit only 40 percent of their shots from the field.

The Zags did not give up their lead at any point during the game, letting it slip to as low as three points
