Zach Randolph leads Memphis Grizzlies past Wizards, 107-93

"O.J. Mayo has promised to return from his NBA-imposed, 10-game suspension in the best shape of his life physically and mentally.

The Grizzlies' shooting guard will need to if he plans on keeping up with his running mates on the bench.

If the question is just how the Griz will compensate for Mayo's absence due to his violation of the league's anti-drug policy, then the answer apparently will come in many forms.

The Washington Wizards certainly had a difficult time solving Griz backup forward Darrell Arthur on Saturday night in FedExForum. Arthur tossed in a career-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting to help guide the Grizzlies to a 107-93 victory and a .500 record.

Zach Randolph extended his career-best and franchise-record streak of double-doubles to 14 games with 24 points and 20 rebounds, and Mike Conley had a double-double (15 points, 12 assists) as the Griz improved to 24-24.

Arthur made seven of his first eight shots and missed only two field goal attempts.

"With O.J. out, we just have to find a way to make up those points," Arthur said. "for me, I'm just trying to be an energy guy. The guys found me, and I felt like I was in a little zone. Once you get easy baskets, you feel like you're really into the game."

For the second time in as many nights the Grizzlies' bench presence took out the opposition. Memphis' reserves edged Washington's bench 40-39 in scoring, but their impact was far greater.

That was especially true in the third period when the Griz blew the game open. Arthur's scoring combined with Tony Allen's active hands on defense helped the Griz score 13 unanswered points and storm ahead 82-63.

Memphis took a 19-point lead into the fourth quarter and quickly pushed the advantage to 88-67 when backup rookie point guard Greivis Vasquez found Allen streaking into the lane for a dunk.

Allen finished with 15 points off the bench."
