"The youngest son of the Jaguars' new head coach was arrested on charges of cocaine possession and trespassing on Friday, according to police in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Shane Mularkey, 21-year-old son of coach Mike Mularkey, was among three University of North Carolina students arrested on the charges.

The new coach offered a brief statement on his son's arrest via e-mail.

"I am grateful for the support that I've received from the Jaguars family and apologize for any distraction," the coach said. "We are attempting to learn more about the situation, and I appreciate everyone's understanding that this is a private family matter, and therefore we cannot add anything further at this time."

Mike Mularkey was hired only a few weeks ago by new team owner Shahid Khan, replacing Jack Del Rio, who was fired in late November. The new coach's oldest son, Patrick Mularkey, was hired in late January as an assistant strength and conditioning coach after two seasons as a scouting assistant."
