"As he took inventory of the Eagles' talent in training camp, Vince Young believed he was in the right place at the right time to revive his career as a possible NFL starter.
As he took inventory Thursday night in CenturyLink Field after the Eagles' 31-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, he was still trying to convince himself that he was right.
Despite being intercepted in the first and last Birds' possessions, and two other times in between, Young denied that a game and possibly a season had spun out of control too early.
"Not really," he said. "I thought we did an all right job. We just have to take care of the turnovers. That's pretty much it."
Young's four interceptions lifted his total to nine in the season, eight in the last three games as a starter while Michael Vick has been recovering from broken ribs. He was 17-for-29 passing for 208 yards Thursday, including a two-yard touchdown pass to LeSean McCoy. He added 32 rushing yards.
But the turnovers, as he was quick to acknowledge, were pretty much it. The most damaging came with 4:24 to play and was returned 77 yards for a touchdown by David Hawthorne. The most telling came on the Birds' first offensive play, Kam Chancellor picking off an attempt to DeSean Jackson.
"I should have just taken off and run," Young said. "Me and D-Jack were not on the same thing. I thought he was going to come back to it. But I released it and he didn't. But as far as being the quarterback, that is my responsibility to take care of the ball a little more on touch plays like that."
Young, who famously declared the Eagles a "Dream Team" in training camp, is 1-2 as a starter, but 0-2 since Sunday. He refuses, though, to admit that the opportunity to start has been frustrating.
"Not really," he said. "Things happen. It's team-first. Now, we have to get it back together." "
