Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig is heading for an MRI on his injured left thumb, manager Don Mattingly announced. Puig hurt himself sliding into first base in the third inning on Saturday, but stayed in and finished the game.

Puig, 23, was benched for Friday's home opener after showing up to the ballpark late. He's shown a knack for these nagging, day-to-day injuries in his relatively short career, mostly because he plays very hard and crashes into walls, slides head-first into first base, stuff like that.
