Righthander Michael Pineda started the game with clean hands and the Yankees ended it with a clean sweep of a day-night doubleheader against the Cubs.

Pineda, who appeared to have pine tar on his left hand and wrist during his last start against Boston, pitched six scoreless innings as the Yankees won the nightcap 2-0 before 40,073 fans at Yankee Stadium. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter.

The bullpen extended its scoreless streak to 13 1/3 innings with three scoreless frames.

Brett Gardner and newly called up Scott Sizemore each had an RBI single to provide the offense. Sizemore, who missed all but two games in the past two seasons after tearing his left ACL in consecutive seasons, had two hits and scored a run.

In the opener, Masahiro Tanaka threw eight scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory.

The Yankees (9-6), who banged out 12 hits in the nightcap, concluded their nine-game homestand by winning four straight and six of nine. They begin a seven-game road swing in Tampa Bay tonight before heading to Boston.
