"Lance Berkman sat his four daughters down in their Houston home and tried to explain how the trade deadline would change some things for their family.
"I said 'look, I just want y'all to know that daddy doesn't play for the Astros anymore, I got traded to another team.'
"I'm sitting here thinking it's going to be a big momentous moment in our family history and (the kids) are like 'big deal.' And I said you know that means you all get to come up here and (my daughter) says 'oh great we get to go to the big toy store again,' talking about FAO Schwartz, so that's what they equate that to."
In the Yankees' locker room Monday afternoon, three new faces - Austin Kearns, Lance Berkman and Kerry Wood - were all getting accustomed to the daily grind in a new place. The moves were sudden, for some, and reflected in their collective demeanor before what would be an 8-6 loss to the Blue Jays.
None of their lockers had name tags, and the three of them spent time getting to know the clubhouse attendants and various workers within the organization. Wood was standing in a locker full of crisp, unbent baseball caps."
