"Rich Harden is not meeting the expectations the Texas Rangers had in mind when they signed him in December to lead their starting rotation. To the right-hander's credit, though, he knows he must be better than he has shown in the first three starts with his new team.He has more walks (14) than innings (131/3).He twice has failed to go at least four innings. The Rangers are 1-2 when he is on the mound."I'm not happy with it," Harden said. "I need to pick it up."The most recent loss came Sunday at Yankee Stadium, when Harden issued six walks, hit two batters and gave up four runs in 32/3 innings en route to a 5-2 loss that completed a three-game sweep by the New York Yankees."Too many pitches. Too many walks," said Harden, who threw 94 pitches. "When you do that, that result is a little broken-bat hit that scores a couple of runs. You can't do that. It's unacceptable."The Rangers have lost four consecutive games on their nine-game trip, which resumes Tuesday at Boston. The good news is that they don't return to Yankee Stadium this season. But the Yankees come to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington for five games in August and September. That's bad news for Rangers pitchers, who watched New York batters continuously work counts and put the ball in play the past three days.Harden wasn't right from the start, as the Yankees scored a run in the first without a base hit but with two hit batsmen, a walk and a sacrifice fly. They put two runners on in the second, but Harden got Nick Johnson looking to end the inning. The Rangers gave Harden a lead in the third with two runs, a burst that started with a single by catcher Matt Treanor. He scored on a one-out double by Elvis Andrus, and the shortstop scored on a single by Michael Young.Mark Teixeira, though, started the Yankees' third with a homer, which Harden said was his only mistake of the game. Alex Rodriguez walked, and with one out, Jorge Posada dumped a flare into left that landed on the foul line for a single."
