Yankees newest outfielder, Andruw Jones, surprised to be in spring training with Bombers at age 34

"In October of 1996, Andruw Jones became the youngest player ever to hit a home run in the World Series, taking Andy Pettitte deep in the second inning of Game 1. Wednesday, Jones dropped his stuff at the Yankees clubhouse, a place he never thought he would call home.

"I thought I was going to be with (the Braves) for a long time, but things happen," Jones said. "It feels like a long time ago. When I was driving here, I was thinking, 'Wow. My manager is the catcher I played against (in the 1996 World Series). That made me feel really old."

Jones, who turns 34 in April, is slated to be the fourth outfielder, taking over for Marcus Thames as the primary righthanded option off the bench. Jones said he can play all three outfield spots, although Joe Girardi plans on using him exclusively in the corners, shifting Brett Gardner to center when Curtis Granderson is given a day off."
