"What do you give the man who has everything?
A statue of himself, of course.
The Derek Jeter lovefest reached a crescendo before Saturday's game, when the Yankees honored the captain for reaching 3,000 hits by showering him with gifts - including a 225-pound sculpture in his likeness, diamond rings and a crystal vase.
The stainless steel sculpture - a gift from teammates, commissioned by CC Sabathia and Jorge Posada - is a statue of Jeter tipping his cap above a giant "3000."
"(Jeter) said, 'Where am I going to put this at?'" Posada said. "I said, 'You've got plenty of room in that house.'"
The ceremony started with a vignette on the stadium's giant screen documenting Jeter's journey to 3,000, followed by a standing ovation as the shortstop ran from the dugout. He was greeted by three members of his family - father Charles, mother Dot and sister Sharlee. Noticeably absent was fiancée Minka Kelly. Jeter and his father received 14-karat gold rings with 50 total diamonds, each engraved with No. 2."
