Another start, another step forward for Andy Pettitte.

Pettitte picked up his second straight win since returning from the disabled list, blanking the Twins over six innings as the Yankees continued their winning ways with a 6-3 victory at Target Field on Monday night.

The win gave the Yankees something they haven't had in three weeks: a little breathing room.

With their eighth win in nine games, the Yankees extended their lead to 1-1/2 games in the AL East as the Orioles split a doubleheader with the Blue Jays in Baltimore. The 11/2-game spread marks the largest gap between the teams since Sept. 3, ending a 21-day stretch in which the Yankees were either tied or ahead by one game.
