According to, Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn has been fired.

But here's the twist...

Flip Saunders will likely replace him.

According to the report, Saunders, 58, and Wolves owner Glen Taylor have met several times over the past few weeks and are in the process of negotiating a contract that would run through 2018.

The Wolves were 89-223 during Kahn's tenure which, in fairness, included key injuries to Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio and Chase Budinger. But missing on high draft picks Jonny Flynn, Wes Johnson and others was always a staple of Kahn's time in the front office.

Love's comments to Yahoo! Sports earlier this season -- mostly savaging Kahn -- also raised several eyebrows internally.

Saunders posted a 411-326 record in nearly a decade as head coach of the Wolves prior to being let go in 2005, and he recently was in discussions to take over as head coach of the University of Minnesota men's basketball team -- his alma mater.
