Wolski hopes to find game with Gaborik

"Wojtek Wolski's first game with the Rangers brought him an on-ice enjoyment that had been missing during his time with the Coyotes.

"This season hasn't been much fun," Wolski said Wednesday after his first practice with the Rangers. "Yesterday [against the Canadiens] was the first time I felt like myself again. I had the puck and we created opportunities. It was exciting again."

Fun's fun, but part of the job he was brought to New York to do via Monday's trade of defenseman Michal Rozsival, was to provide Marian Gaborik with a compatible linemate.

The two offensive talents get their second chance to work together - this time likely joined by rookie center Derek Stepan - as the Rangers host the NHL-best Vancouver Canucks tonight. Gaborik has gone five games without a goal, matching his longest goal-less drought of the season.

"I think we created a lot of chances," Gaborik said of their efforts in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Canadiens. "I think it will be the right fit."

Their line with Artem Anisimov was scoreless with four shots - and a near tying goal by Wolski - in the defeat.

"I think it's similar to when I played with [Joe] Sakic or [Milan] Hejduk," Wolski said of his former Avalanche teammates. "You've always got to be ready and not crowd him and get into the empty areas. When he does get open you want to be in position for the two-on-ones with the next guy."

Gaborik has 11 goals and 12 assists in 30 games after tying a career high with 42 goals last season and setting one with 86 points."
