Former University of Michigan star running back and Eastern Michigan assistant coach Mike Hart will be joining the Western Michigan University football program as an assistant coach, according to school officials.

Hart will replace Charles Huff, who left last week to join James Franklin's staff at Penn State University.

Hart spent the last two seasons as Eastern Michigan's running backs coach. He was on EMU's staff for a total of three years and was the only assistant retained by new Eagles coach Chris Creighton.

Eastern rushed for 1,896 yards as a team in 2013 (81st in the nation) and 1,950 in 2012 (69th). Eastern running back Bronson Hill had seasons of 1,101 and 905 rushing yards during Hart's tenure. Hart set Michigan's school records for carries (1,015) and rushing yards (5,040) during his four-year playing career with the Wolverines from 2004-07.
