You've heard of a phantom foul. This was a phantom basket, and it had Wizards announcers Steve Buckhantz and Phil Chenier completely fooled at the end of the game against the Pistons on Wednesday night.

The Pistons led 96-95 as Washington's Trevor Ariza put up a last-second shot from the corner. It brushed bottom of the net, giving the appearance that the shot was good.

"Dagger!" Buckhantz yelled on the Comcast Sportsnet broadcast, thinking the Wizards had prevailed. "Ariza from the baseline for three, and the Wizards with a miraculous comeback in Washington!"

"Dagger!" is one of Buckhantz's calling cards.

But as Wizards players slowly walked off the court, Buckhantz realized his miscalculation: "They're saying it did not go … The dagger has been retracted."
