Without contract in Russia, Alexei Yashin said to have eyes on NHL return

"Alexei Yashin could be on a path that leads him back to the National Hockey League. At least that is what his agent is saying, following news Yashin's contract will not be renewed by his team in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.

Yashin, 37, spent the past four seasons in the KHL, with Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg SKA -- the latter of which decided to "embark on the road to a younger squad," GM Alexei Kasatonov told the Russian site Sport-Express.

Before heading home, Yashin spent 12 years in the NHL, last seen in the 2006-07 season with the New York Islanders. He is on record as saying he would like to return to the Isles, who bought out his contract after that season."
