Francisco Cervelli threw out a pair of baserunners at second base in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over the Rays. Neither was credited as a caught stealing — both runners attempted to advance after a pitch got away from Cervelli — but the catcher is 5-for-7 throwing out runners this spring. “Couple good ones today,” Cervelli said. “I’ve been working every day so I feel good, like more relaxed behind the plate.”
Cervelli isn’t handicapping his chances to emerge from camp as the starter, though with Austin Romine getting sent out to minor league camp on Monday, it appears that the Yankees will go with Cervelli and Chris Stewart to open the season.
