With Halak and Elliott, Blues are always confident they will win

"If you have been following along, you know that protecting their goal has definitely been a Tale of Two Goalies for the Blues this season.

Jaroslav Halak was in a rut when the season started, which is when alternate Brian Elliott emerged from obscurity. Elliott went from nearly starting the season in Peoria to making the NHL All-Star team. He finished the first half with 15 wins and five shutouts and is among the league leaders in goals-against average (1.69) and save percentage (.938).

No doubt about it, for a while it seemed as if Elliott supplanted Halak as the team's most reliable netminder. He has had stretches of five consecutive starts and seven starts in 10 games.

But along with a head coaching change in early November came a renaissance for Halak. Back in goal for the Blues on Saturday, Halak came to Nashville with four shutouts in his last seven starts, and he had allowed a total of seven goals in those seven games.

In terms of clutch, three of Halak's last four shutouts have come in 1-0 victories. Over 16 games leading up to Saturday, Halak was 12-1-3 with a 1.53 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage. The reversal has been dramatic, nearly as dramatic as some of his saves.

"That's what I'm there for," Halak said. "Some guys are there to block the shots, some guys are there to score the goals and make the plays. I'm there to stop the pucks. When you look at the shots, we've kept the shots to under 25. Every time we can do that ... there's a good chance we can win the game.""
