"The names haven't changed but the magnitude of the question has regarding who will help Reggie Wayne carry the load at wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts.
It won't be Anthony Gonzalez, at least for the immediate future. The veteran receiver sprained ligaments in his right knee in Sunday's season-opening 14-12 win over Jacksonville.
Team president Bill Polian said on his Monday evening radio show on the injury isn't "year-ending. The fact that it's not season-ending is a good thing."
Although Polian was unable to offer a timetable for Gonzalez's return, he could be out as long as six weeks.
If that's the case, who will help ease the pressure that undoubtedly awaits Wayne, especially on the heels of his 10-catch, 162-yard performance in the opener against the Jaguars?
If Gonzalez is out for more than four weeks, Polian said the Colts likely would sign a veteran.
And no, it won't be Marvin Harrison. The 37-year-old was released by the team in February and remains a free agent.
"It really is counterproductive to try to bring a player in who has not had any training camp, not had any offseason," Polian said. "That's especially true of someone at Marvin's age.
"It's very, very difficult to do and you're probably inviting injury upon injury."
Veterans who might merit consideration include David Tyree, Amani Toomer and Matt Jones.
The initial and primary workload, though, rests with Pierre Garcon and rookie Austin Collie. Each shared the No. 3 role Sunday, combining for five receptions and 39 yards. Now, they will be forced to divvy up the No. 2 responsibilities.
"I have no idea what's going to happen," said Collie, the team's fourth-round draft pick. "I'm just concerned about getting better and continuing to work hard and continuing to maximize my potential.
"The loss of a teammate is huge, especially Anthony, who's a big-time contributor on this team and has a huge part in the offense."
Without Gonzalez, the Colts have only three healthy receivers on the active roster and two more -- Taj Smith and John Matthews -- on the practice squad."
