Williams re-injures groin as Cavaliers lose to Nets

"The Cavaliers had their full roster healthy and intact for less than two games. It probably won't happen again for quite some time.

The team's three-game winning streak ended with Wednesday's 95-87 loss to the New Jersey Nets, but more importantly is the loss of Mo Williams again.

Williams left the game with 3:39 left in the third quarter with a strained left groin. It's the same injury, but in the other leg, that forced him to miss most of training camp and the first three games of the season. Williams previously strained his right groin in October.

He had hernia surgery during the summer of 2008, before the Cavs acquired him, and the doctors told him then the most important part for that entire region is rest.

''That's probably been the thing, I didn't get enough rest on it,'' Williams said. ''I've been going extremely hard from the day I've been activated. I haven't taken a day off.''

Ironically, coach Byron Scott was overly cautious before allowing Williams to return to ensure he was completely healthy. Scott dealt with his own lingering groin injuries during his playing days and wanted to make sure Williams was 100 percent.

Williams and Scott both thought he was. Now he says the goal is to play Saturday against the Indiana Pacers, although that doesn't seem very likely since this injury forced him to miss a month the first time.

''These injuries are tricky. You never know how your body will react to it,'' he said. ''We'll tackle it the right way, we'll do the right things. Look forward to playing Saturday.''

Williams said there wasn't any particular play that caused the injury, but that it just happens over time. He struggled through a 1-for-12 shooting night on Tuesday and was just 4-for-11 on Wednesday before leaving the game, but he said the injury flares up more on the defensive end.

''Running straight forward doesn't really bother you,'' he said. ''It's when you get into action, in a defensive position per se, that's when it can affect you. If you're not 100 percent in those areas, it can be bad for you on the court, you can't really help your team because you can't really move laterally.''

J.J. Hickson had 15 points and six rebounds and Antawn Jamison had 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench for the Cavs, who led by 10 at the half before struggling again in the second half.

The third quarter has been their downfall throughout the early part of the season and it was again on Wednesday, when the Cavs went 6-for-18 from the floor and allowed the Nets to climb within two.

Scott has maintained the Cavs wouldn't lose a game this season because the other team was in better shape, but conceded his guys were tired."
