"His acceleration isn't the same. He can't jump nearly as high as he did in his days with the Lions.
But 30-year-old Roy Williams is far from ready to hang up his cleats.
"How many years do I have left in me? Who knows,'' Williams said. "Losing takes a toll on you, though. When you're winning, you can play a lot longer.''
Williams looked somewhat rejuvenated during Sunday's 17-13 season-ending victory over the Vikings. He caught four passes for 60 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown reception from Josh McCown, his second score of the season. Including last week's performance against the Packers in Green Bay, Williams ended the season with 10 catches for 141 yards in his final two games.
"Out of all our receivers, Roy had the strongest finish,'' Devin Hester said. "I hope he proved to himself he's still capable of playing ball.''
But did he prove enough to coaching staff to warrant a return? Williams signed a one-year deal worth $2 million and change after the Cowboys released him. Although he wasn't as productive as offensive coordinator Mike Martz forecast, Williams tied Johnny Knox for the most receptions (37) among the receivers and 507 yards gained. Those numbers could be worth a minimum-salary contract offer."
