"Point guard Mo Williams made two consecutive 3-point shots in overtime to propel the Cavaliers to a 126-118 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.
Guard Anthony Parker added five points in the overtime to help the Cavs to their third consecutive victory, despite giving up a seven-point lead in the late stages of the game.
LeBron James scored 36 points, grabbed six rebounds, added nine assists and made 15-of-16 free throws to pace the Cavs. Antawn Jamison had his best game with the Cavaliers, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Williams matched him with 22 points.
''It was just playing off 2-3 [James],'' Williams said of his OT heroics. ''I think that's one of my roles, to take the pressure off 2-3. We can't expect him to make all the shots.''
But it was the defense that came to life in overtime that won the game for the Cavs. The Cavs struggled to contain Hedo Turkoglu (18 points), Andrea Bargnani (24 points, mostly on pick-and-rolls) and point guard Jarrett Jack (24 points), but the
exact opposite proved true in the overtime. The Cavs held the Raptors to just 1-of-8 shooting in overtime and connected on 5-of-9 shots to pull away.
The Cavs appeared to have control of the game late in the fourth quarter, but the Raptors erased a seven-point deficit and tied the game 107-107 with 1:11 to go.
After the Raptors took a 111-109 lead with 17.6 seconds to go, a driving layup from James, his second in the final minute, tied the game with 13 seconds left and the Cavs' defense held as Turkoglu missed a 3-point shot with a second left. The Cavs had one last shot with 0.8 of a second to go, but Anthony Parker misfired on a long 3-point attempt to send the game to overtime."
