Wild captain Mikko Koivu, who scored the tying goal on a brilliant individual effort in the first period of Friday night's Wild-Anaheim Ducks game at the Xcel Energy Center, stopped a shot with his hand later in the period and did not return.

After Anaheim took a 1-0 lead at 3:30 of the first period, Koivu bulled his way to the net from the right corner, cut in front and jammed the puck at Ducks goalie Curtis McElhinney. An instant after McElhinney made the save, Koivu jammed in the rebound to tie the score at 5:01.

Two minutes later, Koivu blocked a shot by the Ducks' Andy Sutton and left the ice, headed for the dressing room.

It was later announced, after the Wild took a 4-1 lead through two periods, that Koivu would not return because of an upper-body injury.
