"The Miami Dolphins and Joey Porter aren't officially divorced just yet because the NFL rejected the roster money due to salary cap ramifications.

But Friday's attempt to release Porter clearly indicates the three-year marriage between South Florida's beloved football team is clearly coming to an end. The Dolphins want the world to know they are better off without the 11-year veteran, and his inevitable release will allow them to avoid paying the $1.2 million he was due this offseason in roster and workout bonuses.

Of course it didn't help matters that Porter spent all of last week campaigning for his release, citing irreconcilable differences.

Well, the Dolphins plan to give Porter, who was one of four linebackers named to the NFL's All-Decade team for the 2000's, what he wanted. His outright release allowing him to look for a 3-4 team on the West Coast, which is where his family resides.

When he's eventually cut during the first week of March it'll be interesting to see how many teams show interest in signing Porter, who turns 33 in March.

While the four-time Pro Bowler led the team with nine sacks, he registered a career low in tackles (41), and failed to live up to his captain designation on a team that was lacking in leadership."
