"White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy can't wait to pitch against the Cubs tonight.
''What's not to look forward to?'' Peavy said Tuesday. ''You guys see how the crowd gets excited. It's just fun pitching when there is a little more [energy]. When you go to
Fenway, when you go to Yankee Stadium, when you play in this type of series, there is always a little more adrenaline, and that gets you through some tough innings.''
Peavy was hoping the Sox would win the second game of their
series Tuesday against the Cubs at U.S. Cellular Field so he would be on the mound for the rubber game.
Because of the Sox' 3-2 victory, Peavy will get his wish.
That's the way he likes it. The higher the stakes and the more the juices flow, the better.
''With some experience, you can take that adrenaline and channel it,'' Peavy said. ''That's what athletes live for — to play on a bigger stage than you've played before. I would say this is a nice stage to play on.''
Alexei Ramirez doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Brent Morel to break a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning. Jesse Crain retired all five batters he faced to earn the victory, and Sergio Santos got all four batters he faced for his 13th save.
Paul Konerko hit his 21st home run in the second, and Juan Pierre bunted in a run in the third to give the Sox a 2-0 lead. The Cubs pulled to 2-1 on a homer by Carlos Pena in the fifth, then tied the score on a sacrifice fly by Aramis Ramirez after a one-hour, 44-minute rain delay in the sixth."
