"The 2005 NFL draft was considered one of the deepest in a decade when it came to tailbacks.
Most the the draftniks preached that teams needing feature backs could find one in this class.
The Miami Dolphins, which saw Ricky Williams career go up in smoke, were certainly one of the teams in great need. So the franchise's decision makers (Nick Saban at that time) took what they felt was the best of the backs in former Auburn standout Ronnie Brown with the draft's No. 2 overall pick.
But three tailbacks (Brown, Texas' Cedric Benson and fellow Auburn tailback Carnell "Cadillac" Williams) were taken in the top five picks, and 20 tailbacks overall were selected.
Three of the backs – Brown, 49ers tailback Frank Gore and Dallas' Marion Barber III – have made at least one Pro Bowl appearance, and Brandon Jacobs won a Super Bowl as the Giants' featured back in 2008.
But five and a half years in, I was wondering who can be considered the best of that tailback class? Here's a look what's left of the backs from that draft to help us settle the debate."
