"The weather Sunday for Orlando called for partly sunny skies, high 73, low 52.
With only a slight chance of Gilbert Arenas ever changing.
You can't but help like this particular side of Arenas. When he says the health of his arthritic left knee depends on the weather or airplane-cabin pressure --- it's now listed day-to-day --- you just have to laugh.
I mean, my Grandpa said he could predict cold or rain by stiffness in his big toe, but he was a farmer. He wasn't an achy NBA player passing himself off as a human Doppler.
(Stories on Google say there are no cohesive research studies linking weather and joint pain and…. I can't believe Arenas made me look.)
It's Gilbert being Gilbert.
Arenas sat out Sunday night with an injury --- and temperatures were way above freezing here. He apparently bruised his troublesome left knee after colliding with Chicago's Kurt Thomas.
The Magic say it isn't serious, which means Gilbert might be in a cast by noon today.
The problem with the lighter side of Gilbert is there's a dark side. Well, if it's not dark, it's partly cloudy, with thunderheads forming.
He earns a $100 million contract and media love as the playful Agent Zero. He then gets suspended for bringing guns to a dressing room in Washington.
Arenas talks of "a rebirth" in Orlando. Then you read Washington Post reports that he's abandoned his kids, although an Arenas attorney denies it.
Arenas says he needs time to round his game and body into shape after sitting out most of last season. Then you watch and wonder if that leg he's dragging around will get any better this season --- or ever.
There's always something with Gilbert.
Fans likely have Grant Hill flashbacks when Dwight Howard says Arenas is "playing on one leg right now" and Stan Van Gundy says, "I don't think he's fully there. Some days he looks better than others."
Apparently, there are days when it's so cold that he has to bring his knee, pets and plants inside."
