Ryan Nugent-Hopkins caloric intake has taken on a life of its own.

What do the scales say?

How many pounds has he gained?

How's he going to do against, say, 6'4?, 220-pound Ryan Getzlaf?

The kid has tons of talent and his hockey IQ is Mensa like. But, here's one dissenting thought. Could there be too much emphasis on RNH getting bigger to play against NHL men. Could the 18-year-old Edmonton Oilers' first overall draft be carrying a little too much weight for his body right now. There's been so much written about the kid getting larger that maybe he'll struggle with the extra pounds. Maybe he won't be quite so quick or shifty. If so, it would be understandable.

"He was about 161 pounds or so at the start of last season and he's 175 or so now. That's a lot of weight to gain in one year," said one scouting observer who thought RNH looked a little sluggish in his shifts at the Canadian world junior team development camp.
