"Right now, Brian Westbrook is to the San Francisco 49ers' offense what Eldra Buckley is to the Eagles' offense -- an afterthought.
Even though Westbrook battled injuries and watched his production levelswiftly in his last two seasons with the Eagles, who cut him in February, it's hard to believe a winless 49ers team that ranks 20th in total offense and 27th in rushing couldn't find more than three overall touches for a two-time Pro Bowl running back who just three years ago was one of the NFL's preeminent run-catch threats.
Westbrook is the currently the backup to Frank Gore, also a Pro Bowler who's younger and in his prime. The Niners seem intent to maximize Gore, who leads the team in both rushing and receiving.
The sparsely used Westbrook has just seven total yards, but the Eagles aren't dismissing the potential of San Francisco finding a role for him today against his old team."
