Power forward David West's debut with the Indiana Pacers may have to wait until next week.

Coach Frank Vogel said Wednesday that he'll likely hold West out of the Pacers' preseason opener against the Chicago Bulls at Conseco Fieldhouse on Friday.

"It's only because the game will just be days after he signed with our team," Vogel said. "He's still learning the system and he's got to improve his conditioning because he was holding himself back some since he was a free agent."

West, who signed a two-year, $20 million deal Tuesday, has practiced only twice with his new teammates. He stayed late with four other players after Wednesday's practice so he could continue to get a firm grasp of Vogel's system.
