West Ham are poised to make a surprise move for former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan when the transfer window reopens in January.

Boss Sam Allardyce is desperate to strengthen his forward line as club record signing Andy Carroll is still some way from making a first-team return.

Forlan, has a wealth of experience and had a two-year spell in the Premier League with United.

The 34-year-old Uruguay forward returned to South America last year when he signed for Internacional and has been one of the club’s top goalscorers.
