"Ruvell Martin has lived a vagabond existence in the NFL.
After playing for three teams in the first five years of his career, he hopes to put down roots in Buffalo.
"I think it's a great opportunity, especially for wide receivers in this offense, to get out there and show that they can be counted on to make some plays," Martin said Monday.
For as much as the Bills go to four-receiver sets under coach Chan Gailey (they did it on 25.8 percent of their plays in 2010, based on News figures), Martin has a point.
"It surprised me how often they would go four wide receivers and have that fourth wideout do some different things that the tight end might do in other offenses that I've been in," Martin said.
He has seen his share of playbooks since breaking into the league with Green Bay in 2006. He played in 41 games over three seasons with the Packers, making nine starts. He then moved to St. Louis for a season and spent last year with Seattle."
