Doug Weight retires, joins Islanders hockey operation staff

"Doug Weight has played his last NHL game. The 19-season NHL veteran retired Thursday morning, where it was announced that he would join the New York Islanders Hockey Operation staff. The former captain will serve as an Assistant Coach and Senior Advisor to the General Manager.

Weight, a second-round pick of the New York Rangers in the 1990 Entry Draft, played the majority of his career with the Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues before signing three years ago with the Islanders. Shoulder and back injuries limited him to 107 games, just 54 over the past two seasons."
