"Ryan Doumit, the club's longest-tenured player, could be playing his final home game with the Pirates today.

Doumit was originally scheduled to start in front of last night's packed house, but he was given "a breather" after being struck by numerous foul balls behind the plate.

"I wanted to at least give him the honor of going out and playing in front of the last largest crowd of the season," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said.

The Pirates have a $7.25 million club option on Doumit for 2012, which they are not expected to exercise."
