"The right shoulder of Brandon Webb is right where it should be, judging by the normal timetable for pitchers who have had the type of operation he underwent in August 2009.
That timetable doesn't have an end date set in stone. It could be spring training. It could be Opening Day. It could be sometime in April or early May.
But the 2006 National League Cy Young winner and the award's runner-up the next two years said he plans to be a full-go when pitchers and catchers have their first spring workout Feb. 17, and he is hopeful that he will be in the Texas Rangers' rotation on Opening Day.
Webb and left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes were introduced Monday as the newest members of the reigning American League champions. Each signed a one-year deal for 2011, and Rhodes' deal includes a vesting club option for 2012.
Webb, who hasn't pitched since Opening Day in 2009, said he won't be gun shy on his first day in Surprise, Ariz., next month.
"Coming into spring training, healthy or not, it takes people a few weeks to get their feet wet," Webb said during a news conference at Rangers Ballpark.
"I feel like I should be right there with the other guys. A few days with the guys, I should be rolling."
The 31-year-old has been sacked the past two seasons and returned for only four innings during the fall Instructional League. He topped out at 85 mph with his fastball and said he isn't far away from his normal velocity."
