The Angels came into Thursday riding a three-game losing streak and in desperate need of some positive momentum with the season quickly slipping away.

Jered Weaver provided that with seven shutout innings in his first start back from biceps tendinitis, leading the Angels to a much-needed 6-0 victory that snapped the A's six-game winning streak and proved once again why he's the clear-cut ace of a star-studded staff.

The Orioles won, 3-2, over the Rays in 14 innings on Thursday to temporarily give them a half-game lead over the Yankees in the American League East. Immediately following their victory, the Angels stood three games back of the Yankees, who play the Red Sox at 4:10 p.m. PT, for the second AL Wild Card spot.
