"What's the old adage? Everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it.

In the case of the Rockies and Phillies, all they can do is bundle up, grin and bear it if Saturday's Game 3 of the National League Division Series is played in sub-freezing temperatures, or if early October snow descends on Coors Field.

"It doesn't bother me, I'm a cold-weather guy," Rockies Game 3 starter Jason Hammel said today. "I enjoy pitching in the cold. It doesn't bother me. Humidity hurts me because I sweat like a pig. But honestly, I'm excited just to get out there."

Rockies manager Jim Tracy promises his team won't make any excuses if Saturday's game is played in adverse weather and the Rockies don't perform well.

That being said, he's rooting for a quality baseball game, and he's certainly wide-open to postponing Saturday's game if things get too nasty.

"If moving it back because there's going to be much better weather, that would be the most sensible thing to do," Tracy said. "I don't know how much my opinion is going to be asked, but I really believe that they will make a decision that makes sense for both clubs. Because Game 3 in a series that's 1-1, it's a fairly pivotal game. You'd hate to see a game be determined one way or the other due to the fact that the conditions were not good."

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, who selected three-time Cy Young winner Pedro Martinez to pitch Game 3, said frigid weather is more of a handicap for hitters than it is for pitchers.

"It's tough on a pitcher in some ways where he grips the ball and stuff. But it's tougher on the hitters," he said. "You usually put on more clothes and it's hard to get loose. Also, when you hit the ball, it kind of stings your hands. Even though you have gloves on, you can kind of feel it. It kind of sets in the back of your mind if it's real cold you notice that a lot.""
