David Moyes looks to have been dealt a new Manchester United blow after reports emerged that Wayne Rooney has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The striker, who recently penned a new £300,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford, is currently suffering with a chipped bone in his toe.

And according to the Daily Star, the problem is more serious that was first thought and is threatening to rule Rooney out for the remainder of the campaign.

United have just five matches left in their season, but Moyes was hopeful of having a full-strength team to pick from, as he looks to build momentum for next term.

It’s not yet clear on how the injury will influence Rooney’s availability for the World Cup, but the Star claims that United doctors are hopeful he will be back in time to feature for the Three Lions in Brazil
