"For most NBA teams, Anthony Tolliver, Devean George and Reggie Williams would be small forwards. And not very intimidating ones, as the 6-foot-9, 243-pound Tolliver is the largest of the bunch.
But when the huddle broke to start the third quarter, the trio walked onto the court as the Warriors' front line. It almost worked: the quickness advantage, spreading the floor, the outside-in offense.
In the end, however, the inside game of the New Orleans Hornets was just too much. The Warriors fell 135-131 after giving up 24 second-chance points and losing the battle of the boards by 21 rebounds to complete an 0-5 trip.
With their top two centers out, and starting center Andris Biedrins possibly sidelined for the remainder of the season, Golden State appears to be back to small ball at least for the near future.
"We can (play that way)," Stephen Curry said after totaling 12 points, six assists and four turnovers and snapping his consecutive minutes streak at 108. "We've just got to help each other a little more than we probably would have to if we had our two big men."
Biedrins might have already played his last game of the season.
He was examined in Philadelphia by Dr. William Meyers, who confirmed Biedrins has a sports hernia and a small tear of an abdominal muscle. Dr. Meyers will perform surgery on Biedrins today at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia to repair the injury."
