"Lou Amundson was the first Warriors player to show up when the NBA opened teams' training facilities this week, and he's interested to see who else is coming to Oakland.
Amundson is in great shape, having split his offseason working with his personal trainer in Colorado and finding pickup games against pros in Los Angeles. His energetic, defensive-minded style seems to match what new coach Mark Jackson is seeking, but Amundson, who once played on a Phoenix roster that included Shaquille O'Neal, Amar'e Stoudemire and Robin Lopez, knows the Warriors need more.
The front office agrees. General manager Larry Riley is aggressively working the phones for possible trades, and assistant GM Bob Myers is in Los Angeles meeting with representatives of free agents.
Whether it's realistic that the Warriors could sign one of the top free-agent centers, they've showed interest in Marc Gasol, Tyson Chandler, NenĂª, DeAndre Jordan and, to a lesser extent, Samuel Dalembert. Amundson offered scouting reports on those targets:
Gasol: "He's got a nice hook shot over his left shoulder, and he can hit the 15-footer. If you get a little physical with him, he doesn't like that too much - just like his brother (Pau). He's a good player. He's going to be sought after."
Chandler: "He's athletic. He's a shot-blocker. If he's around the rim, you better wrap him up. You can let him shoot from outside, if he wants. If he's inside, you better wrap him up, because he's going to dunk on you.""
