"Warner, 38, was not ready to make an announcement about his future after the Cardinals' disappointing 45-14 loss on Saturday.
"I don't really have a target date," he said. "I've thought about it a lot and have over the past couple of years. I have some ideas in my head, but you want to get away from the season for a minute and make sure of everything your are feeling stays that way. I don't think it will be a long, drawn-out process. I wouldn't want to do that either way to this organization."
If he retires, he won't have left on the note he wanted. The Saints held him without a touchdown pass a week after he threw for five touchdowns against Green Bay in the wild-card round.
He also missed a series in the second quarter after taking a brutal hit from Saints defensive end Bobby McCray as he tried to chase down an interception."
