Ward, Kemoeatu to open Steelers training camp on sidelines

"Starters Hines Ward and Chris Kemoeatu will open training camp with the Steelers on the sideline, placed on the physically unable to perform list until they overcome their injuries.

Ward had surgery on a thumb that has not sufficiently healed and Kemoeatu has swelling in a knee.

Also, coach Mike Tomlin today announced that five draft picks have been signed, leaving only two left -- first-round pick Cameron Heyward and third-rounder Curtis Brown. Signed to four-year contracts were Marcus Gilbert, Cortez Allen, Chris Carter, Keith Williams and Baron Batch.

In other developments, the Steelers this evening came to contract terms with their remaining two priorities in free agents, offensive tackles Willie Colon and Jonathan Scott.

Before he could jump in the shower and head to Latrobe, offensive tackle Willie Colon was jumping for joy after agreeing to a five-year contract with the Steelers for $29 million this evening.

"I'm happy . . . I could not see leaving,'' Colon said. "My happiness is in that room and with coach [Sean] Kugler.''

That room would be the one where line coach Sean Kugler gathers together his players for meetings, and they will be rejoined by another key member. Jonathan Scott, who started at left tackle after Max Starks' neck injury last November, also came to terms with the team this evening on a two-year contract."
