"Even with reports that Billy Wagner may soon join the Red Sox, Mets Manager Jerry Manuel said he had not been told by the front office to keep Wagner in the bullpen until a deal could be reached.

Wagner was placed on waivers this week and was reportedly claimed by the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. The Mets and the Red Sox have until Tuesday afternoon to work out a deal."
